May 26, 2016 is National Grape Popsicle Day! Who even knew such a National Celebration Day existed? The story goes that the early 1900’s, a young lad in California poured soda powder in water, stirred it with a stick and left it overnight in the cold and wound up inventing the Popsicle.
Grape is not the number one flavor! (but it still has its own day)
Cherry is the most popular Popsicle flavor – but grape is one of the top contenders. The Popsicle brand has more than 25 different variations of the frozen treat. Not bad for something that started off as an accident! Originally, it was billed as “Popsicle, the frozen drink on a stick”. Today, 2 billion Popsicle ice pops are sold each year. I remember as a kid, trying to make our own Popsicles with Koolaid that was made with saccharine. Probably the worst idea ever. You really needed the sugar in that instance. My favorite way to make my own is with some tasty 100% grape juice. Yum! So freeze up some juice, or pop into a store buy some Popsicles and celebrate National Grape Popsicle Day. Like you need an excuse! 🙂
